Ten years ago Bill Clinton committed the act that would eventually lead to impeachment proceedings. When testifying under oath by lawyers for Paula Jones, Bill had the following testimony:
Q. Did you have an extramarital sexual affair with Monica Lewinsky?
A. No.
Q. If she told someone that she had a sexual affair with you beginning in November of 1995, would that be a lie?
A. It's certainly not the truth. It would not be the truth.
Q. I think I used the term ''sexual affair.'' And so the record is completely clear, have you ever had sexual relations with Monica Lewinsky, as that term is defined in Deposition Exhibit 1, as modified by the Court. ...
A. I have never had sexual relations with Monica Lewinsky. I've never had an affair with her.
Thus began the circus that clouded the remaining 3 years of his presidency.
When I saw the Slate article today it reminded me of some of the unflattering aspects of his administration. Don't get me wrong, I think Bill Clinton was a very good president, but these actions were a national embarrassment.
Having sex with an intern would have gotten any chief executive in America fired. To put this in perspective, as a Howard Stern listener I have frequently heard Howard talk about his interns being off limits for dating even with some of the staffers that are their same age. Why Howard Stern has higher ethical standards than Bill Clinton is beyond me. Then there is the perjury. Just ask Marion Jones about the penalties for perjury.
Do we really believe that Bill Clinton is now faithful to Hillary? There are many rumors of his continued cheating. Actor Gianni Russo (Godfather) claimed to be with Bill Clinton on 9/11 on a yacht in Australia with an endless parade of women joining Bill for a little fun. Do we really want to go through this again? If Hillary seems to accept this behavior, that is her choice. Does that mean we need to subject the country to the possibility of this recurring?
Someone needs to ask Bill to look at the camera and guarantee the American public that this isn't going to be an issue in his wife's administration. If he does that, then we've gotta make a judgment that he is being honest.
Again, I feel Bill Clinton was a great President, but when he left office, it could not have been soon enough. Who wants to go through this again?
