More like Bill than Hillary

Today Obama adviser Samantha Powers resigned after using her outside voice to refer to Hillary Clinton as a monster. As true as that may have been some people were put off by it. Just a couple of weeks ago I read a story on Salon on how she started working for Obama. As she said in the interview

His office called me when he began serving in the U.S. Senate in early 2005. He had just read "A Problem From Hell" and wanted to meet to discuss fixing American foreign policy. I thought, "Well that's interesting -- clearly he's in some other league." I mean, who spends Christmas reading a dark book on genocide? No other politician had ever contacted me to discuss it.

We were supposed to meet for only an hour but ended up meeting for three or four hours at a steakhouse. Suddenly it was almost midnight and I heard myself saying to him, "Why don't I just quit my job at Harvard and work in your office for a year or whatever?" I didn't even know what I was proposing, but he said, "Great."

It gives an interesting glimpse into the type of President Barack would be. When I read this is reminded me of the good qualities of Bill Clinton. Bill was always intellectually curious. I was at a speech in which terrorism Czar Richard Clarke recounts Bill Clinton calling him after seeing his speech on CSPAN commending him how good his speech was. He went on to remark that the speech aired on CSPAN at 3am and Bill called him early the next day.

How many times do you think GWB stayed up at 3am to see a speech on terrorism on CSPAN? Those were the positive parts of Bill Clinton, he was intellectually curious. He was informed, he asked good questions and when he made decisions at least he made them knowing the different sides of the arguments.

Just reading this story from Samantha Powers made me think that Barack would be the same way. He read a book on the genocides in Darfur on Christmas, wanted to learn more so arranged time with the author and hired her as an adviser.

Maybe while Barack is sitting in the Oval office watching CSPAN at 3am he can answer the phone ringing.
