The Victory on the Horizon

Much has been made about the Democratic party coming together after the nominee has been chosen, it has gone quietly unnoticed that the Republican Party has not exactly embraced their candidate.

In the month after John Kerry wrapped up the nomination in 2004, the Democratic donors opened up their wallets and handed over $44million in election contributions. Republican donors have only donated about $15 mil to John McCain despite the fact he spent most of the month fund raising.

Tonight on the night of the Pennsylvania Primary, the story will clearly be that Hillary won on the Democratic side and the debate will be over whether or not the margin was high enough to validate her staying in the race. An interesting and under reported story is that close to 200,000 registered Republicans went to the polls today and voted for a Republican other than John McCain.

Think about that for a second. In a non contested race, 200,000 people woke up this morning and voted for a candidate other than John McCain. In a year where Republican enthusiasm is down, having a nominee that the party is clearly not embracing will lead to a general election disaster.

So while Clinton and Obama fight it out and the polls look close when running against McCain, don't think for a minute that the close polls mean McCain is getting an advantage. When all is said and done the winning Democrat (Obama) will swamp McCain.

All in all, the Wright issue, bittergate and the disastrous debate performance all happened since the last primary. All in all I think it was about as I expected.

I really think he is going to win in Indiana and put it away.
